The Greatest Monthly Contest in Aviation! FAQ’s

We receive a number of questions about what is, undoubtedly, the Greatest Monthly Contest in Aviation!  Here are some answers for you.

The contest is designed to be played in good fun, and be a cool way for you to engage directly with the Sponsors who are a big part of the creation of new Flight Chops episodes.

There are many individual calls-to-action that make up the whole contest; you can play only some of them or increase your chances of winning cool stuff by playing all of them.

HOW DO I ENTER THE CONTEST?

The contest lives here.

By default, when you enter one of our contests we will need to know who you are & capture some basic details (namely so we can contact you if you win)!

If you authenticate using a social network, then the contest will prefill as much of the information as the network provides. For example, Facebook provides your email address to prefill, Twitter doesn’t.

Note: If you have ever used a social media account in conjunction with the contest in the past, it will ask you to login with that info.

The minimum age to play this contest is 18.  Please be extra sure to enter the day, month and year in the order requested by the system.

If you are having any difficulty entering the contest, check out the app’s FAQ’s.

I ENTERED LAST MONTH.  DO I NEED TO ENTER AGAIN?

Yes.  Each contest runs as its own separate entity.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Each month there is a larger ‘featured prize’ as well as a ton of other awesome stuff that we are giving away.

Recently we added Super Epic Quarterly Prizes for our Patreon patrons (same goes for Steveo1Kinevo’s patrons) so keep your eyes peeled for updates about those.

HOW MANY WINNERS ARE THERE?

It depends.  The contest is a living entity that evolves over time, and as a reflection of our participants’ feedback.

For a long time we had a winner-take-all approach (there was 1).  We later introduced some runner-up prizes (1 main winner + 5 runner-ups).  Most recently, we responded to a lot of requests for there to be more winners, so we have updated the contest to split the prize lot among more people.  At last count, there were 16!

WHERE DO YOU ANNOUNCE THE WINNERS?

Winners are first announced via the Flight Chops newsletter.  The signup for that (highly recommended!) can be found here.

Winners are contacted privately by our team, and arrangements are made individually regarding prizing.

Winners are announced as soon as the results are tabulated and winners are selected.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN THE CONTEST TAKES PLACE?

Seeing as it is a monthly contest, we strive to launch a new edition at the beginning of each month and wrap it up at the end of that month.

If you are approaching the end of the month and you haven’t yet played, you can still win! Entries are just as valid the entire span of the month.

I’m a Private Pilot, doing my best to stay current and learn. I fly for fun and might just be the least cocky pilot on the internet! My self analysis videos can seem self deprecating at times, but I am trying to learn from the small mistakes to avoid making a big one; I’m happy to share and find it rewarding to help other pilots or aspiring aviators in any way that I can. How does the saying go? “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards”. And in aviation, not all tests are survivable.

My virtual “ride-along” flying videos are aimed and sharing my experiences and giving back to the aviation community which has been so helpful to me. I shoot multi-camera angles, get detailed real time instrument panel shots, and have radio intercom audio. I respect people’s time, so I put a fair bit of work into editing to keep the videos concise and engaging; I add animations and further graphics and voice overs where needed to add context and explanations.

My hope is to continue to grow and evolve the “Flight Chops” project with input and support from the aviation community!

Flight Chops Disclaimer

I am a “weekend warrior” private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience – I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve…. Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share.

Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
