I had a similar problem in September, 2016 at Brampton, Ontario. Gear would not extend despite implementing troubleshooting and backup procedures, due to loss of hydraulic fluid. In that case we McGyvered a solution with a quart engine oil, a Leatherman multitool, and a cardboard box. But the key really was to keep cool, fly the plane, and take all the time necessary to work a solution. The pilot in this episode also pointed out rightly how important it is to know your airplane’s systems and procedures.
