Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How did #TeamTrees get started?

#TeamTrees started in May 2019 when the internet challenged Mr. Beast to plant 20 million trees to commemorate hitting the 20M subscriber milestone. Fans then suggested he band together with a bunch of other YouTubers and influencers to make it happen. A growing group of them have been working hard for the past five months to set up the framework for this insane goal to have a fighting chance of success.

Who exactly is the Arbor Day Foundation and why did you choose them over other tree planting NGOs?

We quickly realized that to plant trees in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way we would need to partner with the professionals. After speaking with a number of people in the environmental space, the Arbor Day Foundation stood out as having the best reputation. They are the longest-running tree planting NGO, with 47 years of experience, and they have the same Charity Navigator rating as the American Red Cross.

Does my donation go directly to the Arbor Day Foundation?

Yes. Donations through either TeamTrees.org or the YouTube donate button are sent directly to the Arbor Day Foundation to fund tree-planting. One dollar plants one tree.

Is this donation tax-deductible?

Yes, monetary donations to the Arbor Day Foundation are tax-deductible. The Arbor Day Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization. The Foundation’s Federal Tax ID number (also known as an EIN, Employer Identification Number) is 23-7169265.

What does my donation actually go towards?

For every dollar you donate, one tree will be planted in a forest of high need around the globe. It’s that simple!

Where are the trees are being planted?

Due to the sheer volume of trees planted (20 million), they will be planted in a variety of forests on public and private lands in areas of great need. Many of these forests will be State and National Forests managed by government agencies. The goal is to plant trees on every continent not named Antarctica!

Who will plant the trees?

The Arbor Day Foundation works closely with professional forestry partners including (in the United States) the U.S. Forest Service, the National Park Service, and the National Association of State Foresters.

When will the trees be planted?

Trees will be planted throughout the year starting in January of 2020 and completed no later than December 2022.

What species are going to be planted?

The Arbor Day Foundation always emphasizes planting native species where local conditions and forest plans allow. Their motto is to plant the right trees, in the right place, for the right reasons.

Why are you planting trees instead of preserving ones that already exist?

It is vitally important to protect, manage, and restore forests globally. We’re focussed on restoration. According to the National Academy of Sciences, forest restoration has the most global climate mitigation potential compared to all other natural climate solutions. Restoring lands through tree planting is the Arbor Day Foundation’s area of expertise and something they’ve been doing for nearly five decades. And there’s still a huge untapped opportunity, because if you add it up globally, there’s an area of land twice the size of China where you would be able to plant trees. This opportunity to remove carbon from the atmosphere would be unrealized if your only strategy was preservation. So we need both. There’s no silver bullet for addressing climate change, just silver buckshot, so we should actively pursue many different approaches including both preservation and restoration. Planting trees is an important part of the solution.

I’m not signing up for junk mail am I?

No. And we will never sell your data, etc. Many people are requesting updates on our progress, so we will send those (sparingly) if you tell us you want them when you make your donation.

I’m a Private Pilot, doing my best to stay current and learn. I fly for fun and might just be the least cocky pilot on the internet! My self analysis videos can seem self deprecating at times, but I am trying to learn from the small mistakes to avoid making a big one; I’m happy to share and find it rewarding to help other pilots or aspiring aviators in any way that I can. How does the saying go? “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards”. And in aviation, not all tests are survivable.

My virtual “ride-along” flying videos are aimed and sharing my experiences and giving back to the aviation community which has been so helpful to me. I shoot multi-camera angles, get detailed real time instrument panel shots, and have radio intercom audio. I respect people’s time, so I put a fair bit of work into editing to keep the videos concise and engaging; I add animations and further graphics and voice overs where needed to add context and explanations.

My hope is to continue to grow and evolve the “Flight Chops” project with input and support from the aviation community!

Flight Chops Disclaimer

I am a “weekend warrior” private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience – I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve…. Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share.

Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
