My 1st Solo – AGAIN! – best + WORST landings back to back – Super Cub – Tail Wheel Flying

Ride a long as I fly the Super Cub Solo for the first time.
I also share my WORST Tail Dragger landing to date.
Watch in HD and you can read the panel

Receiving my tail wheel endorsement has been one of my most proud accomplishments as a pilot.
A pilot’s license is “a license to learn”; and for tail wheel flying, this concept of constant practice to improve and stay proficient definitely applies – Every flight presents a challenge, and I’ll be sharing many videos of my ups and downs along the journey to become a better tail wheel pilot.

As of releasing this video, I have about 20 hours tail wheel, I have a long way to go and will keep at it to learn and stay proficient…
But I’ve been loving it, and will continue to share the experiences from this constant journey of true stick and rudder flying.
I have enough experience at this point, that I know enough to know what I don’t know…
if you know what I mean…

NOTE: this video was EDITED down from several hours worth of training flights to under 20 minutes; Thus, there are missing details and possible lost context – PLEASE do not look at this as instruction but rather the start to a conversation that you can have with your instructor.

I have many “Flying Tail Dragger – Tips” already produced, and more to come; they’re numbered randomly because I have no idea how many there will be and what order of importance to assign them 🙂

Here are the direct links to some other Tail Wheel Flying videos that I’ve done, but please also check my channel in case I forget to update the links here in this description:

As of the date releasing this video, 100 people have decided to pay for what they know they can get for free – I REALLY appreciate the support.
The Patreon notice that I’d reached my 2nd milestone goal came this morning at a great time
– I’ve been stressed with “real” work lately, and was actually up most of the night last night working…
I was behind getting this video out – And the encouragement really helped to energize me, at a time when I was truly exhausted!
It helped me find the energy to get this video done!

I’m a Private Pilot, doing my best to stay current and learn. I fly for fun and might just be the least cocky pilot on the internet! My self analysis videos can seem self deprecating at times, but I am trying to learn from the small mistakes to avoid making a big one; I’m happy to share and find it rewarding to help other pilots or aspiring aviators in any way that I can. How does the saying go? “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards”. And in aviation, not all tests are survivable.

My virtual “ride-along” flying videos are aimed and sharing my experiences and giving back to the aviation community which has been so helpful to me. I shoot multi-camera angles, get detailed real time instrument panel shots, and have radio intercom audio. I respect people’s time, so I put a fair bit of work into editing to keep the videos concise and engaging; I add animations and further graphics and voice overs where needed to add context and explanations.

My hope is to continue to grow and evolve the “Flight Chops” project with input and support from the aviation community!

I am a “weekend warrior” private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience – I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve…. Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share.

Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
