Mountain Flying Training with Jason Miller was awesome!
This is an other of many episodes that I am happy to share from the 2015 workshop!

ADDED CONTEXT:
Reminder that for this series I was a student pilot and a filmmaker – I was not acting as Pilot in Command.
Part of the story is our struggle to make a fairly epic production; it was hard, and it was part of the deal. Failing to get the live iPad feed for what I considered to be the most important part of the flight was a blow. I wanted to explain why we went from live video of the iPad for all the other episodes in this series (and the first half of this episode) to having only still screen grabs for the Buck Eye Pass adventure.

*****
Additional DETAILS from Dr. Howard Donner:

The pulse oximeter shines two beams of light through the finger. One beam is red light and the other is infrared light. The ratio of red to infrared light is used to determine the oxygen saturation.

Regarding being in good cardiovascular shape as related to avoiding altitude issues. The answer is … being in top physical shape (or having a high level of cardiovascular fitness) helps with performance in all arenas but has no specific advantage for helping pilots adapt to altitude.

Incase the explanation of blood saturation was not clear enough: The bottom line is Oxygen saturation reflects the percentage of the total hemoglobin that is carrying oxygen.

* AVIATION SPECIFIC LIFE VESTS:
Not be confused with MARINE Life vests designed to inflate when wet.
And removal of the N2 cartridge from a Marine vest will then require manual inflation, which can be a challenge if one or more passengers are injured during ditching.
I’m no expert, but please research and make an educated decision about what is right for the type of flying you do…
