Two missions to honour D-Day veterans on the 75th anniversary

In this episode, we are honoured and humbled to be part of 2 incredible stories commemorating the 75th D-Day Anniversary from 2 different perspectives, one Canadian and one American.

___

I’m really proud of how this came together.

I fully admit that while filming over this crazy period, I had no idea how I was going to tell these stories… It felt like constant chaos trying to cover the action and capture the nerdy pilot nuggets that were all around me.  But I think we have both some great learning moments and a compelling episode here. Enjoy!

Happy weekend – I’m heading to Windsor for some RV-14 building, and Warbird flying!

Cheers,

Steve

Mikey wanted to be sure we thanked the school front and center here in the description:

ÉCOLE NATIONALE D’AÉROTECHNIQUE
Located in the suburbs of Montreal, the École nationale d’aérotechnique (ÉNA), the aeronautical institute of cégep Édouard-Montpetit, is the largest aeronautical education centre in North America. ÉNA can accommodate close to 1,300 students annually.
ÉNA’s six hangars house 38 aircraft, including 27 airplanes and 11 helicopters. Its facilities and advanced equipment, valued at $85 million CAD, include approximately thirty-five specialized laboratories and workshops, in addition to a research center for aerospace technology, the Centre technologique en aérospatiale.
ÉNA’s three technical programs, which combine theory and practice at a post-secondary level, are designed to be completed in three years. ese programs are equivalent to 14 years of studies and lead to a Diploma in College Studies (DEC). ÉNA’s students can also enroll in a work-study program.
ÉNA’s graduates can enter the workforce or pursue university studies in engineering.

I don’t always question training methods… but when I do, I learn something 🙂

Please comment with your thoughts on the potentially controversial topic of traditional multi engine flight training regarding engine failure procedures (specifically after take off / on climb out).

Big thanks to Gold Seal for inviting us to produce this one! And massive thanks to Dan for sharing this training, and for being willing to “put himself out there” regarding this topic!

Visit this link if you’re interested in SkyDiving with his team!

Dan was also a big part of motivating me to get my multi engine rating done. I had not planned on starting that before finishing IFR… but it has been a fun ride. Check out our Multi Engine videos here.

This was definitely my most stressful flight of 2017!

Huge thanks to Gold Seal and Dan at Skyranch for the invite, and the motivation to get my multi done.

I had not planned on starting that before finishing IFR… but it has been a fun ride. We’ll be seeing a lot of more Dan in the future episodes training with him on the big birds!

And my multi engine instructor Kevin was awesome, Thanks to him and Spectrum Airways for for tolerating me filming with their planes 🙂

This trip inspired me to really buckle down and get some serious training leading up to it, so that I could really show up prepared.
Training with Dan was solid and we got some great content, and will likely be back to do some more flying with Dan and his massive radial twins!
The fact that I ended up doing a 20,000 sky dive was an added “bonus”?  I have to be honest that I was pretty scared to do that, and right up until the last moment was looking for excuses to get out of it…  but the experience was surreal – And I am glad I did it – will I do it again?  I am not sure I could top it, so probably not 😛
